Navigating Life’s Challenges with Compassionate Support

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
— Carl Rogers

The Essence of Individual Therapy

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or relationship challenges, life’s ups and downs can feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a space to find clarity, build resilience, and create meaningful change.

At Streams of Life Therapy, we offer a compassionate, client-centered approach that helps you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, gain clarity, and build the tools you need to move forward with confidence and balance.

FIND CLARITY, HEAL, AND GROW

Individual therapy is a deeply personal process, offering you a dedicated space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges. Through compassionate conversation and evidence-based techniques, we help you:

  • Find relief from anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and relationship issues

  • Develop emotional resilience and self-compassion

  • Build practical coping skills for daily life

  • Gain clarity and confidence in your personal growth journey

You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. Therapy provides a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can heal and move forward.

How We Work

Therapy is not just about managing symptoms—it’s about creating meaningful change and a stronger connection with yourself. At Streams of Life, we take a holistic approach, integrating evidence-based techniques with a deep respect for your personal experiences. Our foundation is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an approach designed to help you recognize and reshape emotional patterns, leading to greater self-awareness and resilience.

EFT is especially powerful for individuals who struggle with emotional regulation, stress, or self-doubt. By understanding the ways our emotions shape our experiences, we can move beyond surface-level coping and create lasting change. While EFT is at the heart of our work, we also incorporate strategies from other therapeutic modalities, ensuring your therapy experience is tailored to your unique needs.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) & Beyond

At Streams of Life, we take a whole-person approach to therapy, addressing your emotional, mental, and relational well-being. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a research-backed method that helps individuals better understand and regulate their emotions. EFT is particularly effective for those who want to:

  • Break free from negative emotional cycles

  • Build stronger emotional resilience

  • Develop healthier relationships with themselves and others

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. We integrate other therapeutic approaches, in order to tailer fit your therapeutic experience to your needs. Together, we’ll find the right approach for you.

What to Expect in Therapy

Starting therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown. Whether this is your first time or you’ve been through therapy before, we aim to make the experience feel safe, supportive, and engaging.

Sessions are a space for exploration—where your emotions, thoughts, and life experiences can be unpacked and understood without judgment. We work together to uncover the patterns that shape your experiences, build emotional awareness, and strengthen your ability to handle life’s ups and downs with greater ease.

Every journey is different, and we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you.

A Safe Space for Self-Discovery and Healing

Streams of Life aims to create a welcoming, safe, judgment-free space designed for you. Typical sessions are typically 60 minutes, however we like to begin with a 90 minute Intake session to try and cover as much background as possible. Extended sessions are available upon request.

During our sessions, we’ll focus on:

  • Self-Exploration: Understanding emotional patterns and past experiences

  • Emotional Awareness & Regulation: Building skills to manage emotions effectively

  • Skill-Building: Learning coping strategies for anxiety, stress, and personal challenges

  • Personal Empowerment: Gaining confidence in your ability to navigate life’s ups and downs

Therapy is not just about coping—it’s about growth and transformation.

Accessible Support, Wherever You Are

Therapy should fit into your life, not the other way around. Whether you prefer the comfort of your home or the connection of face-to-face sessions, we offer both in-person therapy at our Whitby, ON office and secure virtual sessions.

(Online) Virtual Therapy

Virtual therapy provides a flexible and accessible way to get the support you need, especially for those with busy schedules or those living in more remote areas. Our online sessions are conducted through a secure platform*, ensuring confidentiality and ease of use.

IN-Person TherapY

For those who prefer in-person therapy, our welcoming office space** provides a safe and peaceful environment to engage in the healing process. No matter which option you choose, you’ll receive the same level of compassionate, evidence-based care.

LOCATION

We are located in the historic Donald A. Wilson house at 519 Dundas Street East, Whitby, Ontario.

Our virtual services are available to residents across Ontario, and in select regions across Canada.

* Streams of Life utilizes Jane App, a cloud-based software that helps health and wellness clinics manage their practices. Jane is compliant with HIPAA, PIPEDA, PHIPA, and PIPA

** Our office is located on the second floor of a historic building and, unfortunately, is not wheelchair accessible. We recognize this may be a barrier for some, and we’re happy to discuss alternative accommodations, including virtual therapy options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Often Should You Have Therapy?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Many people find that weekly sessions provide a strong foundation, especially in the beginning. This allows us to build momentum and create meaningful shifts. After some time, bi-weekly or monthly sessions may feel more appropriate, depending on your progress and personal goals. We’ll work together to find the right balance that best supports your healing journey.

Streams of Life is not covered by OHIP, but most private insurance plans include coverage for psychotherapy or counseling. If your plan only covers services provided by a psychologist or psychiatrist, then we may not be covered. It's always best to check with your provider.

Finding the Right Balance for You

Therapy isn’t about a fixed schedule—it’s about what works for you.

Weekly Sessions: Ideal for deeper, ongoing emotional work.

Bi-Weekly or Monthly: A great option for maintaining progress and support.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions for 6–8 weeks, then adjust as needed. We’ll collaborate to determine the best rhythm for your journey.

How MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

Session fees range from $150–$175 per hour, depending on the therapist. When available, interns offer sessions at a reduced rate of $100 per hour, with flexible options for practicum hours.

ACCESSABILITY & AFFORDABILITY

We understand that financial constraints can be a barrier to therapy. Sliding scale pricing may be available on a case-by-case basis, depending on availability.

ARE YOU COVERED BY INSURANCE?

BILLING PROCESS

We accept major credit cards, e-transfers, cheques, and cash. Cheque may include additional processing fees.

A credit card on file is required as the default billing method. After each session, we provide an invoice that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Cancellation policy

Each therapist has their own cancellation policy. We’ll provide details when you book your first session.

You are imperfect, you are wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.
